XP improper shutdown Help please

  PhiltheFragger 20:28 26 Jul 2005

XP system, Athlon xp 2600, 512mb DDr, 128mb Radeon graphics 120Gb Hdd 1 user account

Had a problem recently where system would reboot when shutdown, Have told it not to restart upon system failure, and now it hangs with a blue screen with a message " unable to log off".
Otherwise it works fine.

I have heard that sometimes the system shuts down before everything has closed and that you can introduce a delay. How exactly can I do this?

Any other thoughts welcome

This may help:

1- Start/Run and type Regedit
3- Click on “Control folder”
4- Select “Wait to kill service timeout”
5- Right click and select “Modify”
6- Set to a higher value than 2000

Normal setting is 2000 but can safely be reduced to 200 for a quick shutdown or a HIGHER value for a slower shutdown. Try 20000 for starters.
