XP - how best to optimize?

  Lú-tzé 08:18 07 May 2003

I have (belatedly perhaps) just installed WinXP alongside 98SE and 2k and so far like it.

Can anyone reccomend some performance tweaks for me or give suggestions on how to get the best from it? Any websites etc very welcome. I have done a search on google but keep coming up with software to purchase - I would prefer some good guides instead.

Many thanks.

Thanks so far - I went to the BlackViper site yesterday and disabled a lot of services as was suggested there. After applying lots of critical updates I created a ghost image so am now ready for a few more radical tweaks - I can always go back to the ghost if anything goes wrong.

I will keep this open for another while as I try some of the suggestions.

Run the gpedit.msc command and tweak away.

Leo - gpedit does not seem to be on my XP (home version) - is is only a Pro version option. (Or I may have disabled it yesterday via BlackViper's site.)

Kelly's Korner looks good though; many thanks.

You're quite right - sorry I naturally assumed you'd have the Pro.
