XP home. problems after downloading media player 9

Just downloaded xp update media player 9 series, now all I get when trying to play cd is error message 0xc00d1199: condition id 0x00000000 cannot play file. Also if you try to access radio stations you get error message 0xc00d1197: condition id = 0x00000000 windows media player cannot play the file.
I am on blueyonder broadband.
I have tried going back on the restore dates but the player does not revert back to earlier version. Have enabled all network protocols and proxy settings are on autodetect.
Downloaded Winamp 3 and that works fine on radio or CD playing.
Can anyone help please.

have you tried going into control panel, add and remove programs and looking for the windows media player 9 install. if its there then high light and click remove.

You need to click on Add Remove Windows Components.

the WMP9 installer automatically enters reinstall mode if you install it on top of itself,that's the best way to do a repair. It is counterproductive to remove the player if you intend on reinstalling it.
