XP Home and Chkdsk

I regularly get the Chkdsk screen on startup especially if I have made any changes to system settings. Is this normal as I have not noticed it on other XP machines?

chkdsk running at start up is usually caused by the computer not shutting down properly.

Thanks for those links. Have FAT32 partitions as I am running Hyperos which requires FAT32 file system for system imaging and copying funtionality.

Am running a HP 5490c scanner with the HP drivers so this looks interesting and worth checking out.

Will post back on outcome.

It does not appear to be the scanner.

Could it be the FAT32 file system I am running on???

Have nearly completed memory testing with memtest86 - so far no errors reported. Last an longest test tonight.

Any more ideas anyone...?

Have just discovered four trojan files and two dialers on my system - not sure howlong they have been there - could they have been somehow been causing chkdisk to run?
(Sorry for the long delay in following up)
