Massive Crash, could not repair the volume, new installation on the same HDD, can see my old directory 'My Documents' but cannot gain access, any help out there please (as usual, crash happened during backup and trashed the backup CD)
Is the new instalation on the same partition on the hard disk?
XP Install did not recognise a working installation, so I installed into windows2!
Ok I will need to have a look arround. Can you tell me the error message you recieve if you try to either open or copy the my docs folder.
Try right clicking on the folderchoose propertiesclick the security tabclick advancedclick the owner tabhighlighy the user you want to have access to the files, check the box that says replace owner on subcontainers and objectsclick Apply then okCan you access it now?
Error Message - My Documents is not Accessible - Access DeniedChose properties'Sharing' - Tab no 'Security'No 'advanced' tabIf I select 'Network Sharing and Security' I get the same message.I am running XP Pro by the way!
Disable Simple File Sharing and try againClick Start then My Computer then Tools then Folder Options choose View. Scroll to the bottom of the list of advanced settings and un-check Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended). Click OK.
Same result - I have been trying for 14 hours now!!!
Have just achieved one step further - can now 'gain ownership'
Try click here and save it to the new XP directory. It bieng on the same partition is the problem... you may be able to access it in safe mode (but I dont hold out much hope)
Many thanks AndySD
