XP CD writing

Am I right in thinking that XP has its own CD writing capability and if so, where is it to be found?

windows media player

or by dragging and dropping (for data cd's) to the cd drive icon in my computer.

Yes it does. Just put a blank disk into the CD writer. A window will automaticaly open asking what you want to do. If auto detect is disabled, just open windows explorer and copy and past to the CD drive. Once you have placed all files to the CD drive just klick on "Write these files to disk". That's all there is to it.

Right Click on the item and select SEND TO...CD or DVD Drive. Then open MY COMPUTER/CD or DVD Drive and select Write These Files To....

In your start Menu you will find HELP AND SUPPORT option, this can provide more help.

I'll have a go, but I'm not sure, Nero seems to think there is no ASPI enabled.

OK, tried that - just get message "no writable disk in drive"

do you have the imapi cd burning com service started up. Forgive me for clutching, it's been a while since i've used xp's own software.

Ihave no idea!

start, run, type msconfig into the box and hit ok.

On the dialogue box that comes up click on the services tab.

Scroll down until you see the mentioned service and if it's unticked, tick it.

Like i said, clutching at straws, it's been while since i've used xp's own.

Yep, everyting is ticked including imapi cd burning - it reads "stopped"
