"no connection to the internet is currently available, work offline or try again"

we have ticked the box which says, never dial a connection, but it still it comes up, if anyone can help we would be most gratefull ..thanks

is this when the computer starts up?

i take it you can otherwise connect to the internet ok?

it may be a program trying to get access as windows starts for updates etc.

try: start/run type "msconfig" click the start up tab and untick everything apart from your firewall and AV.restart the computer.

Something is trying to phone home - it may be something innocent like a program trying to check for updates or it could be spyware. Try running Ad-aware click here and Spybot click here

story so far, he has unticked most things in msconfig, well, the things we recognize, he has downloaded and run spybot, and put a tick in most things in zonealarm....we are now clutching straws.....any more ideas, so we can carry on tomorrow night when he gets home from work.

use this site to look up those things in msconfig you dont recognise click here

does zonealarm not ask if you want to allow access for this program? if it doesnt im guessing you have already given it access before and ticked the do not ask again box(or whatever its called)

have a look in zonealarms "program control" settings to see what is allowed access and set it to "ask ??" for those you are unsure of,next time the program wants access it will.

apart from that go through all your programs installed one by one and see if they are configured to update automatically etc and change the settings in that program.
