i have recieved a document from a colleague in note pad where the text only goes halway across the word page. How do i format tne document so it uses the full width of the page in word?? Did i explain that well??

Right click the document and select "Open With" and select "Word", make sure the little box is un-ticked in the "Open With" box.

it opens in word ok but only goes halfway across the page before starting a new line, i just wanted to use the complete page instead of half of it

yeah but its 135 pages long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is the right hand margin too large? (the arrow at the top of the document window)

Try this : File, Page Setup. Adjust the margins, etc.

Silly idea, forget it.

There will be a proper way to do this, in Tools, Table, or somesuch.

its probably something very stupid and very easy but its nowt to do with margins or anything like that.

It's probably because there's a return character or a manual line return character at the end of each of your short lines. You can remove these by using Edit > Replace. Although the following should work, the problem with it is that you'll end up with one single paragraph.

If they are return characters...
- In the find box, type ^p
- In the replace box, press the spacebar to get a space character
- Click the 'Replace All' button

If instead they are manual line return characters...
- In the find box, type ^l
- In the replace box, press the spacebar to get a space character
- Click the 'Replace All' button
