WME--Lost System Restore Point

  spuds 12:04 04 May 2003

The other day I installed a new Umax scanner into my computer system. Since then I have had many problems, with the system locking-up after a warning message, which informs me that I have removed a device incorrectly.Trying Ctrl-Alt-Delete gets me nowhere, so I have to resort to total power shutdown. Restarting my computer puts me into Safe Mode.Trying to stabalise my machine I try to restore to a previous restore point. The restore calender appears with this months date.Trying to go back to late last month, and a spot that a restore point was made, as no effect, and the message that:"There are currently no restore points available" appears.

I have always had Restore Points confirmed on setting them up. Question- Why can I not restore my computer to an earlier point, as these now seem to have been lost.

Microsoft KB article 290700 may help

Some software has been known to stop automatic system restore points being created and the answer to that is to create manual ones, say, once a week

If Windows Me is re-installed over the existing software the restore points are lost

You are a champion. I always forget to use the easy route. Looks like my WME had 'dumped' my restore points. Now reading up on problem solving.

Looking up 290700 now.

Appears as though the problem was caused through possible low disk drive space. If the system thinks that there is insufficient free space, then it will not activate the Restore facility.
