Wireless networking - novice advice

  Newuser1599 12:54 17 Sep 2003

I have had the bright idea that I should be able to wirelessly network my broadband - equipped PC (Win XP)to my son's PC (Win98) in the next room.
The problem is I know very little about wireless networking (though I have a working twisted wired connection to a spare Win 98 back up machine)and so would appreciate any advice as to exactly what hardware I need. My Broadband connection is via a USB modem supplied by my ISP and I have also acquired two Belkin adaptors (811b). I realise that I probably also need a "Gateway" or "Router" but am unclear as to the difference between these and how these will integrate - if relevant - to my existing modem.
Also is networking Win 98 to XP likely to be a problem?
Any guidance suitable for a novice would be much appreciated.
