wireless network proble

Could someone please help with the following problem. I have successfully wireless networked 4 members of my familys computers, in all cases there have been 2 computers in each household and have used the following method in each case.
The pc that connects to the internet has a wireless adapter fitted I then use a access point to increase the signal strength usually at a half way distance between the 2 pc's and then the other pc usually the laptop has a pcmia wireless card. The pc that acts as the host i use ip setting subnet mask I then run the network wizard and make sure the host pc is set to share internet and files etc. In all cases i have had no problems on the client pc's i have also shared the printer etc. I have just tried to set up another friends PC's in this manner and although I can share the internet connection, for some reason I cannot find the printer when trying to find using the add printer on the client, also I cannot see the share folders and files from the client to host. I have tried everything I can think off does any one have any ideas.

Have you made sure that there are no firewalls enabled?
