wireless & metal

This is an odd query, just hoping someone may have the knowhow...

I'm thinking of getting a laptop and wireless router/modem, so I've been reading up on it. I saw a mention of keeping the wireless bit away from "large metal objects".

The thing is, my house has metal skirting boards and door jambs throughout (ex-MoD stock). Is this like to affect the wireless connection, say if I'm upstairs and the modem's downstairs? Would a normal wireless setup be ok or should I look at a high-strength one?

I think you should be ok; you don't have metal doors and walls do you?

Even then, I have seen a laptop being used in a workshop made of corrugated iron and aluminium via a router in a house about 20 metres away and there was no problem with the signal.
