Is it possible to buy a device which will allow my old usb printer to pick up my router signals? This will allow my two laptops to print directly, without having the main PC switched on, which is wired to the printer. Thanks for any ideas.
A wireless printer server should do it. Others will be able to advise how. Which printer and which OS?
Print Server required - make your choice from here - read the reviews or alternatively contact E-Buyer for advice for your Printer. link" target="_blank">http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=print+server">link text
One here for USB link" target="_blank">http://www.ebuyer.com/product/235378">link text
It appears the LINKS aren't working very well at the moment (not for me anyway) - you may have to "copy & paste"
Other than buying a printer server, you can buy a brand new wireless printer http://www.ebuyer.com/product/220269 or a networkable printer " target="_blank">http://ebuyer.com/product/170103">click here which you can connect to your wireless router by ethernet cable and print from anywhere.
The second link.
We are back to copy and paste but unless you read FE's post in Speaker's Corner you would not know.
