Wiping your computer

  mahalo 19:46 14 Mar 2006

I wish to give my computer to someone, and I know you can format it. However I have been told that the only way to be sure of clearing your personal info is to smash it up, which seems drastic as it is perfectly good. Is there a program that would clear it all out or at least make the ifo inaccessable ?
Thank you.

Unless you are an MI5 spook or from Mossad a reformat will be good enough. make sure that you reformat all the drive if it is in partitions, leaving a partition always catches people out and gives rise to the endless 'I reformatted my HD and there was shed loads of info left on it' wails.

Unless you are planning to flog it to the CIA just re-install Windows using the Format option click here
