WinXP Home SP1 CD called for

  taywood 17:32 18 Aug 2003

In order to use sfc /scannow I need a WinXP Home SP1 CD but I dont have one as I did an online update.

Details of my plight are in previous posts but I borrowed a WinXP CD today, it didnt work and when I re read the error message it was asking for the SP1 version.

I have asked for help/advice from the PC maker- none forthcoming.

Can anyone give me a clue what to do next.
I simply need to prove to the PC that marscore.dll is sitting there, then I can do a Restore.

Are you being asked [By the message]to actually insert the CD, or just to be pointed to the file?

If you ring Microsoft Direct Services on 0207 2160032 they will send you an SP1 CD free of charge.

Hi Djohn
When I do Start Run sfc /scannow I get the message asking me to insert the CD.

A month ago when I had the same problem with the missing marscore.dll I simply did Start Run sfc /scannow and no CD was called for then.

In fact nothing seemed to happen, there was no response to say action taken, but when I clicked
Help and Support I got it!

I've asked for a CD to be sent, circa 10 day deliv from Germany.
