"Properties" reports that my drive C is 93% full
This cannot be ! the capacity is 37 GB. the docs and setts folder says it contains 31GB. one sub folder says it contains 31 GB. This could all be true although it is very unlikely. And when the
content of the 31 GB sub folder is examined only
158 kb can be discerned. What is the story behind the missing 99.99% 0f the 31GB ? Any help will be much appreciated.

That does seem a lot but much of the dross on a drive cannot easily be seen.
In My computer right click on the drive and select properties. Then select Disk Cleanup.

This can also eat up lots of hard disc space. To check how much is being used click :
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / System Restore Settings then highlight the drive you want to check and click "Settings".
This will tell you how much disc space is being used for this feature and can be adjusted as necessary.

Let us know how you get on.

if you pick tools>folder options>view

and make sure the 'view all files' option is selected XP might hopefully let you see what is in the huge folder.

Thanks to CGA and Alan M. To-day I used
the reinstallation CD supplied by Dell
with the m/c and this seems to be a sort.
The properties pie chart graphic is a much more
pleasant sight !
