On start up the other day I got a black screen with flashing cursor and the words WININIT.EXE: Missing unable to load. Press any key to continue, which I did. My display looked as if it was in start up mode but after playing around with graphic driver I got this sorted. I checked in the helpdesk about WININIT.EXE only to discover that It is a virus. Don't know how I got it as my virus scanner is up to date. Some solutions seem to be use the windows me start up disc and reload file. Problem is I have no Windows ME disc. Where can I get this file and can I use my computer without it. Also I get a line after start-up saying Windows cannot find '/P'. What is '/P' and does this have anything to do with my first problem. Thanks in advance. Sniffey

May help to know which antivirus program you use.

Start, Run, type

and click OK.

Look for WININIT.EXE and /P on the Startup tab and untick them.
