98SE - I deleted a virus (fakesvcA/B) which created a file svcinit.exe. I've got rid of the virus but when i start up i get the message that windows cant load that file and that i should delete the reference to it in WIN.INI... I can't find any reference to it in win.ini.
How do i stop this pop up message?
Help please

WIN.INI is your configuration file .

Click on start > find > search for WIN.INI in C drive (normally in windows folder), if you click on the file it should open up in note pad where it can be edited .

The virus is also known as Backdoor.Sinit , depending on how you got rid of it i would suggest you have a read up on it at click here first .

To be safe backup the WIN.INI before editing just incase things go wrong.

Go to start run type regedit go to menu/edit click find type or paste fakesvcA/B into the box press enter if it find click delete then OK F3 for next entry and so on till you get end of reg. then restart comp do not remove anything else

If that didnt work, you can access the win.ini file via msconfig.

Start --> Run --> msconfig --> OK

Win.ini is in the C:\Windows\System folder if you have a old file like this as examply Win.old Rename the Win.ini to Win.inix then rename the Win.old to Win.ini
