Windows XP won't start

  Christopher Lewis 16:47 19 Sep 2007

When I try to start my PC I get the usual POST stuff, but then the process stops with a blank screen other than the message "Verifying DMI Pool Data ......"

I went into the BIOS and selected "Fail-safe values" which changes the first boot device to the CD. Now when I try to start I get the same line as above, but then "Boot from CD:" and the flashing cursor.

What is going on? Which CD should I use? What will happen next?

It looks possible there may be a problem with the hard drive.

Have you got a Windows CD? If so, put it in and check to see whether the boot process continues.

DON'T try and do anything more at this stage. Just switch off and let us know what happened.

Do you know how to get into the BIOS?

Did you see if the hard drvie was detected, during the start-up screens?
