Back on new windows xp, activating. Still need to try a game etc.

One problem i found so far is that it is taking a long time to boot up again, unlike after i put the new PSU and CPU in when

it was quicker, it is know back slow.

On checking the event log after booting up, i am getting a disk error in the system logs. I get
'The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\D.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at click here.'

Any solutions to this error or to the start up slowness would be greatly appreciated. Can get the above error 3 times, and

the times the system log records them at is during the long startup with nothing happening.

And How do i remove Shared folders? i did it before, but i can't remember

Yes i know that, on the program what is it im looking for?. On speed fan smart page my 2nd hd has a lower than full fitness, while my 40gb has full

On the seagate tools, c had some problems with the file system, which i tried to correct by manaully running chkdsk, but there was no problems with D:, which is causing the problems in windows. After running chkdsk on C: and correcting errors, i ran segate tools again and got the same problems. I ran chkdsk again, but haven't been able to get back into it as it hangs on the first screen, the use of keyboard and mouse is out.

The Extract from the log is:
File Structure Test Result: Failed
Partition 1 (Windows XP) Result: Failed with critical Errors

The D: error only seems to come up every few boot ups, not everytime. The SMART reader on belarc advisor says it is healthy and so does the one on speedfan. Can post all of the log if needed. Tried that for bootvis, wont trace at all.

Any ideas for this or is the best idea to backup my HD and then send it into CCL?

Thanks

Sam

Only thing is Try a compleat Clean, FDISK or use Partition Magic or some other partition software and remove the partitions and create new ones then reload all

  poogles_uk 13:52 10 May 2004

Ok, my dad should be bringing me home a 40gb hard drive. Ive got partiton magic. So basically copy all my files to the other drive, delete partitions, format, recreate the partitions and try recopying my files accross again?

  woodchip 15:48 10 May 2004

Put the New Dive in as C:\ master change the old to Slave jumpers on back of drive then use PM to partition and format new drive load Windows to new C:\ partition then you can copy files from the old drive to the new Programs copied will not work

  woodchip 15:50 10 May 2004

Put the New Drive Master on end of ribbon cable Slave on middle connector
