Back on new windows xp, activating. Still need to try a game etc.

One problem i found so far is that it is taking a long time to boot up again, unlike after i put the new PSU and CPU in when

it was quicker, it is know back slow.

On checking the event log after booting up, i am getting a disk error in the system logs. I get
'The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\D.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at click here.'

Any solutions to this error or to the start up slowness would be greatly appreciated. Can get the above error 3 times, and

the times the system log records them at is during the long startup with nothing happening.

And How do i remove Shared folders? i did it before, but i can't remember

~Why jimv7 would i need to do this? AS the slowness in booting is before windows loads. There is AGVCC, VC5Play, Nvcpl and zclient to load

Is my HD on its way out?

  poogles_uk 14:45 04 May 2004

Can someone please tell me??

  poogles_uk 18:50 04 May 2004

Regarding disk error, it doesn't come up on every start up

  woodchip 19:38 04 May 2004

You could try checking you hard disc, by first looking in BIOS to see if there is S.M.A.R.T if there is enable it will say if the hard disc is on its way out. If not go to the Manufacturers site to see if there is a program to check the integrity of you Hard Drive. Seagate do one that will should check your drive. click here download Seatools double click the download, you should have a clean floppy disc in comp to create the floppy boot disc tool

i dont have a segate technology hard drive, it is a maxtor

  poogles_uk 11:37 07 May 2004

Bootvis, whenever i run boot trace, the computer wont start up (it crashes on the logon screen), and the only way to start it is to return to last known good configuration. Just running the optomise though, shaves about 1 sec off boot up time.

As for the maxtor HD, ccl reccommend i return it for checking.

bootvis needs both "task scheduler" and "cryptographic services" to be set to automatic to run in:

control panel\administrative tools\services

usually it will just hang though if they are not set to auto.

check start\run and type msconfig.click the start up tab and untick everything except your av and firewall and restart then check the services above are set to auto and try a trace again.

maybe.

The seatools will work with your disc
