Windows XP Problems with System Restore.
If I go to System Properties /System Restore, the “Turn off System Restore on all drives” is checked with the drives all greyed out and displaying Status “Turned off”. If I then uncheck “Turn off System Restore on all drives” and select either OK or Apply the PC locks up.
Advice required.

Can happen if one of your partitions does not have enough free space for system restore.

Did think that but C drive has 115Gb free and the other three partitions whiach are on a external drive each have at least 60Gb on each. I also disconnected the external drive prior to booting up to see if that did any good, but it was just the same.

Switch them all off and see if you can then delete the system restore folders on ant drives still showing one, you may have a corrupt system restore folder

Could you point me in the direction of the System Restore folder/files?

Look for "system volume Information" folder on each drive.

Cannot find "system volume information" whereabouts should it/they be?

Any further ideas out there?

If you have windows set to vies "Hidden files and folders" and you cannot find system volume information then system restore is definitely switched off.
