Windows XP Pro Startup Problems.

Please help, running windows xp pro on pc (or was). now when turning on pc windows xp screen appears then screen goes black and reboots, gets to the same place reboots again. Tried hitting f8 and safe mode, last known good configuration but still no joy. screen goes black then nothing else. hope there is somebody out there who could help resolve problem.

many thanks, process running smoothly until get to part where have to input administrator password - cant for the life of us remember what it could be. is there possibly a password that we could use to override one we put in?

If you never set a password, leave blank and press the Enter key.

tried leaving blank but getting "The password is not valid. Please retype the password"

Go into safe mode. when in windows go to MSCONFIG from Run Startup tab and remove programs that do not need to start with computer at boot
