Windows xp pro installation

  keys27 08:51 31 Mar 2010

Purchased a desktop which has licence coa on casing.
There was no xp on hd as it had been removed, so used my copy from my dell laptop.
Clearly this is not legal but got me working but unfortunately only got 20days left before functionality is lost. Tried to registeron phone and it failed.

This pc replaced an old evesham which is to be scrapped so could poss use the xp home from it ?
Any advice appreciated.

You will no doubt be breaking the terms of the OEM licence with both options as you are using a different motherboard. Suggest you buy Windows 7 if your pc's specs are up to it.

If your laptop or old pc has the same version of XP on it (i.e. Home or Pro)you can use this to install. When you go to Windows update I think you will be asked to validate and will be told key is invalid, but you are given the opportunity to enter a different product key - use the one on the casing. This is only going to work and be legal if someone else isn't still using that key, I presume.
