Windows XP Home updates

Just clicked on Windows update and a new window opened, as usual, but now it stays blank and I'm getting a constant clicking from the speakers. I have to use Ctrl Alt Delete to get out of it. The same happens if I go to the microsoft site and try to update from there.

Any ideas what could be wrong please.

Thanks, Cook2.

Sounds as if virus related. Try an online scan at click here.

I've done a thorough AV check with Avast and Avast Cleaner and Stinger.

Also did an on line scans with Nortons, McAfee and Trend - No viruses found.

Even did a search with Spybot S&D and Adaware.

I think I'll try turning off my Restore Points and re-enable them. Clutching at straws?

I think I found the problem.

It looks like it was the LAN settings, I changed it to auto-detect and now have the update page back and working.
