Windows XP Firewall in Office Environment

I have a lot of Windows XP workstations in the office with windows Firewall enabled.

With this enabled I cannot use the inventory software or the symantec antivirus server to administrator the workstations.

So is it necessary to have windows firewall enable in an office environment. There is a pix in place.

Is there a way around the windows firewall for the inventory.

Please advise.

It's not a good idea to have 2 firewalls going (nor av's).
