I have XP Professional and every time I try to format a floppy I get this messagewindows was unable to complete the formatI can quite easily take the same floppy to a Mac, and it will format it in PC format without any problem. The floppy drive is on a laptop Dell Latitude 500 if that makes any difference. The floppy drive has no problem reading or writing files.
Try disabling antivirus first,if that fails see link.click here
Disabling the antivirus didn't help.In DOS I tried format a:/x but that just came up with the following message The type of the file system is FAT.FORMAT is not available for FAT drives. So now what?
what happens if you don't select the Quick format box just click the start button?try, Start, Run, type in chkdsk a: /f
I didn't select Quick Format anyway. With and without it ticked I get the same message: "windows was unable to complete the format"chkdsk a: /f tells me that "chkdsk is not available for FAT drives"
