Windows Update Problem

  reddwarf 07:11 30 Nov 2006

In the last week I have had 2 PCs that are now unable to download windows updates. When accessing the site I am told that certain files are missing or not registered. I have tried the automatic fix provided on the page and also the manual version. The manual worked for one of the machines but the second is still unable to download any updates. Is there some virus/malware that has recently disabled Windows update? Have MS shot themselves again? Or is it just me. Any helpful suggestions greatfully recieved

Has the M$ site asked for validation ogf your windows installation..... this is required now for a lot of downloads.... assuming you have legal copies of windows on all pcs you may need to validate them before you can install the updates. This can be done via the update site.

It shouldn't be anything to do with genuine advantage, it didn't get that far. Having rebooted the problem now seems to have rectified itself. Maybe a problem with the M$ site.
