Windows Update - 3 Updates won't Install

My PC (running XP) doesn't seem to want to allow installation of 3 fairly recent Windows Updates (KB840374, KB828035 and KB824141). They appear to download ok - but all fail at the installation stage. I've tried to install them all several times without success.

Any clues anyone ??

Many Thanks

Check if they are in the add/remove programs applet. If so, remove then and reboot. Then try to install them one at a time: after the first, reboot and then go for the next. Do them in order of age.

Make sure you have the right version...:-)

I spent considerable time trying to install 330994 without success - kept getting the Quick Fix Engineering error message panel up - only to discover, when I decided to redownload it, that I had originally attempted to use the XP Pro 64 bit version...:-(

They don't appear in add/remove programmes. Have tried to download and install one at a time, to no avail. The updates appear to be for the Home Version of XP as they notified me automatically.

Any more clues ??

Thanks again !!

If the above doesn't resemble your problem or it doesn't work, you could try d'loading the patches separately to your hard disk & double-clicking the saved files to install one at a time. To d'load individually: KB840374 - click here (if it doesn't install correctly click here), KB828035 - click here, KB824141 - click here. HTH, G

Alas this doesn't seem to work either.

Thanks anyway !

Just hope they are not important updates ?

Are the updates applicable to your system?

The reason I ask is because win update keeps telling me that I need to roll back my current nvidia drivers (whql certified) to some dated Oct 2003.

My point is that Windows Update can offer updates that are not appropriate.

Tried the steps detailed (I use NTL Broadband - so changed the LAN Settings as described) - No joy alas.

Mike - I assume they are as when Update runs it tells me there are 3 cricical updates my system needs.

Thanks anyway - I might just give up
