Windows Update

WhenI try to use the windows update site I get a message, "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view."

There is also an error code, "Error number: 0x8024001D"

I have tried looking for a solution in the microsoft Knowledge base but without success.

Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can fix it?

There is a lot of info about this on Google,

Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder by following this procedure......

First, stop the Automatic Updates Service
Go to Start>Run and key in:
Click on OK or hit ENTER
In the right-hand pane of the Services window, right-click on Automatic
Updates and then select Stop

Now, navigate to C:\Windows (C:\WINNT, if using Windows 2000) folder, locate
and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDOLD

Restart the Automatic Updates Service by re-opening the Services window,
right-click on Automatic Updates and then select Start.

Please note that a "side effect" of renaming (or deleting) the
SoftwareDistribution folder is that you will lose your current Update
History listing.

Hope this helps

Rename C:\windows\softwaredistribution\DataStore to C:\windows\softwaredistribution\DataStore.poo and that will reset Microosft Update.

Install again and you should be back in business.

Thanks fort the information. I've tried renaming those folders but it won't let me. I unchecked the read only box, that didn't work, now I'm stuck. Anything else I can do?

You haven't just installed a BT 10v internet phone adaptor have you? because I had this problem when I did, if so you need to go into the adaptor and under advanced settings change it to bridge and not router as it is set as.
