I have just reinstalled windows xp on my laptop.

How can I get it to autoshut (ie without pressing the on/off button) when I shut down.

One of the most common problems with XP shutdowns is caused by power management. Check the power management configuration in Control Panel IS enabled if Setup identified the system as having an APM-compliant BIOS, you’ll see an APM tab in the Power Options.
