Windows Professional XP Advice

Hello to all Forum Members

I recently replaced a friends hard drive (Quantum Fireball) which had packed up.
Having fitted and formatted a new hard drive I reinstalled Windows 98SE on to their machine.
They have an old 500Mhz PIII with 256MB RAM.
I know it is an old machine which has has seen better days, but my friend is insistent that I
install Windows XP Professional,
(which had been previously installed by some P.C technician last year at great expense to my friend).

I do not think this is a very good idea, what should I do?

Kind regards

Rogmur

It will run but a tad slowly. It depends what the PC is to be used for. If just word processing and general surfing it should be fine.

You should have no problem. I would increase the memory to 512 if poss.

I have ran XP Pro on a lesser spec PC but as said I would increase the RAM

Personally I think its too slow with too little memory but if that is what hes used to and that is what he wants then you've no real choice but to do it.
I realise why you've posted this and you're right he would be better of with Win 98 but its his choice really.
Also agree with the more memory comment as well.
