Windows not closing down

  1933 19:51 10 Mar 2011

Following a couple of driver update downloads I now find that my Win XP will not close down,it goes through Saving Settings then sits there Windows is Closing Down, I left it for 3 hours. I tried a Restore but that would not allow a restore. I can switch off the machine and it boots up OK. Also I cannot get into Safe Mode. Any suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks DGS

Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (UPHClean) from click here solved my XP shutdown problem of hanging on 'Windows is Closing Down'
It might work for you also.

Thanks for the replies, in the end I went with lotvics suggestion (Ithink) and as the problem started after updating the SiS PCI USB drivers I decided to go into Device Manager, Power Management and Deselected Allow computer to turn off this device to save power. At least now the PC shuts down. DGS
