Windows Messenger

I have never used Windows Messenger but have a .net passport and msn hotmail address.

When I try to use Windows Messenger I am told that I am not connected but as I am now on Broadband I am connected all the time. Have looked at help files but cannot see any reason for not being able to sign in - my software is up to date and I am using Windows XP Home and BT Broadband basic. Any ideas?

Go to Start>Run and type services.msc

Click OK and then scroll down to Windows Messenger. Ensure that it is set to Manual or Automatic, if currently Disabled, by highlighting the line and right clicking. Use the drop down menu to set the necessary setting.

Have tried that but Windows Messenger is not listed there - only a Messenger which when I clicked on it it warned that it was not Windows Messanger and should not be turned off
