If you're running Xp, try restoring to a time before the problem.

Otherwise I would suggest you go to microsoft website, and download windows media player 10.

This will make sure you at least have a working copy of WMP

Thank you - I am running WMP 10 and System Restore does not change anything.

I have had that problem with WMP 10 but, having saved the set-up on my computer I just re-installed it.

It happened a couple of times but has now settled down.

I suspect it is a conflict with something else.

Thank you - But still nothing works - anyone know a good replacement for WMP ?

ianeon, are you running a copy of Nero on your computer. If so, this could be the cause of some of the problems. I found this out by trial and error. Nero was conflicting with WMP 10, especially after I had used Nero. Just a thought!.

Thank you for your advice - I shall now run "Real Alternative" till I can fix the fault
