windows mail - problem recieving

  muscic lover 12:19 14 Nov 2009

have a friend using windows vista, and likes to use Windows mail to recieve all his emails from. His server is NTL/Virgin.
NOw he can send mail from win mail but does not recieve - he used to be able to.
His mail is all recieved at Virgin media site - nad is not loaded to win mail site.
He has to use the virgin site to read mail -but it used to load to win mail..... all the settings have not changed.......

Any ideas to try before we both go mad figuring this out.
I am stumped as to why this should occur - no settings have chanmged recently.....
Thanks very much in advance...

We need to know what error message he is getting when trying to receive mail

He gets no error messages.
He can send mail but, not recieve anything. The mail gets 'held' at the virgin media site - it used to be auto forwarded to his win Mail account.

No errors just mail held at virgin site, but still able to be read there - but would prefer to carry on using win mail.

But if he opens WinMail and clicks on Tools - Send and Receive - Receive All - he should either get a message saying 'No New Messages' at the bottom right-hand corner or an error message.

he gets the no new messages message, but that is even after sending himself a test mail. He sends it,it goes. no new mail arrives.
we wait 1 min - still no new mail
we check in virgin media - the test mail is there waiting. It used to be forwarded straight away to his win mail account - this forwarding no longer occurs

In WinMail go to Tools - Accounts - highlight account and Properties. On General tab - is the box ticked at the bottom beside 'Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising'? If not then tick and click Apply and OK.

If it is - try unticking it and Apply/OK. Close WinMail then re-open and tick and click Apply/OK.
