Windows Live Messenger error.

When trying to log in to 'Windows Live Messenger' I am getting an error signature as follows:

AppName: wlcomm.exe AppVer: 14.0.8064.206

ModVer.5.12600.5755 Offset: 00036efa

ModName: ntdll.dll

I then tried reverting my hard drive to an earlier date, when Windows Live Messenger was working OK, and this worked. I was able to get into this program. However the internet web page would then not come up, and I got a message saying 'Blank Page' try again. I did but it would still not work until I reverted back to the present date when the web page was displayed but the Windows Live Messenger' again refused to function.

I did a spot check and the diagnostic program said I was connected to the Internet OK.

Any ideas what could have gone wrong?
I also got some Exception information
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x000000007c936efa
