Windows hangs at shutdown screen

  [DELETED] 07:53 06 Jun 2006

Hi all,

Need some help....on shutting down the computer the process goes all ok until the windows is shutting down screen, disc activity stops and it just stops there. No matter how long I leave it it just stays there. If I do a reboot in safe mode it powers up and down ok but then when doing it again in normal mode it hangs again.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

click here for troubleshooting, scroll down to see windows hangs problems. There are so many causes for this it is difficult to give any definate answer. The fact that you can boot and shut down OK in safe mode suggests that it is something "Software or Hardware" that is causing the problem

"Software or Hardware" I meant software applications not Windows itself.

Fix HAL, invalid Boot.ini etc

many "Missing or corrupt HAL.DLL," "Invalid Boot.Ini," or "Windows could not start..." problems can be fixed with these five shortcut steps:

* Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
* Run "Attrib -H -R -S" on the C:\Boot.ini file
* Delete the C:\Boot.ini file
* Run "Bootcfg /Rebuild"
* Run Fixboot

It really can be as simple as that!

[This comes from the above site... I'm not so sure it is alwsys so simple!]
