Windows freezes

Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on a little problem.
Sometimes, not always, when windows is shutting down or going into standby my computer freezes. This happens when the window saying "windows is preparing to shut down/standby" appears.
The computer is left on nearly all the time anyway. But on occasions it is shut down, i somtimes have this problem.
I'm using XP Pro. by the way.
