I was running XP on a P3, installed Linux Xandros as a dual boot, subsequently tried to remove it, tried to re-install XP, had an accidental power-off three-quarters of the way through, got a blue creen of death saying "bad hal.dll", replaced the HDD inserted the XP disk and tried to re-install.

Diodorus, I downloaded the DiskWizard utility but the remove the ddo option was greyed out.

BTW, why would replacing the HDD result in XP failing to boot?

Please do not double post about the same problem. It just confuses those trying to help.

This was solved by switching the IDE cables.
