Windows Defender and McAfee running together

  bpzoom 21:53 12 Aug 2018

Windows 10, I just realised I am running Windows Defender as well as McAfee anti virus which comes automatically with BT broadband. Sometime in the past I recall reading you are not supposed to run two anti virus programmes simultaneously or they will clash with each other. I have noticed no problems, but should I close down or disable Defender?

Apologise. My Defender is switched off,

That's what Defender does. It steps in if,for some reason, you don't have an AV. Then steps down when you load another

I would have thought defender would have stayed on as anti virus does not cover anti malware.

Someone else will have to confirm this, but I don't think that Defender does anything about Malware

Yes, I use Defender & it does provide antivirus & antimalware...good thing is, it updates a number of times per day so is always current. I ditched Avast free some time ago. Not experienced any problems on 3 machines using Defender on Win 10 at all.
