I have updated latest definitions & it tells me I'm now up to date, but when I open the programe it says definitions have not been updated for 17 days

Thank you VoG. Followed the link but having run the solution it could'nt open the installation package etc etc

The link Vog gave you normally sorts this problem,however in case you may have mistyped something try this.

Start > Run > copy and paste the below data in your run box and enter.

Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

Its better to reboot your system after adding the data,then try Defender again.

If this does cure your problem,post back.

Thank you skidzy. Have done as suggested and removed whatever it is I've removed. Have rebooted but still the same

Have you got your Microsofts windows updates turned on,Defender updates are merged with windows updates.

Yes I have. Windows update say's I am up to date.
I am wondering if some of my software is the cause. I have recently installed a lot of spyware software to protect myself
