Windows Defender

  SB23 16:14 27 Mar 2006

I've got Windows Defender installed, and for a while now its been telling me that its definitions are out of date, 19 days to be precise.
I updated it yesterday, confirmed from MS site, "review my update history", but the program still is saying that I haven't updated. Infact, in my taskbar there is a little castle wall with an exclaimation mark in it.
Have I missed something, can anyone suggest anything ?

Have tried that with no effect.
The program connects, then tells me that it has the latest updates, but when you look it still says that the definitions are still 19 days old, and I still have the exclaimation mark in my taskbar.
Do you think a re-install is worth a try ?

Just found this on the MS site. It would appear that this is a common problem with updates for Defender.

Will try it out and let you know.
Back later.

Sorry, I'm not having a good day !

I'm having that bad a day, that even that info hasn't worked.(I typed it in exactly). Have now adjusted updates to do just that at 21.00 hrs to see if it will do it by itself.

Is this what you typed

Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

In case of any possible typing errors,i would suggest you copy and paste

Start > Run >

Copy and paste the data below into the run box.

Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

then enter.Restart your system

That's done it. Updated and working normally again.(I copied and pasted) Thank you.

ACOLYTE, thanks to you aswell, although I didn't see your link. I apologise for my obviously failing eyesight.

Next thing for me is a typing course,lol
