Windows Cannot Upgrade System Files

  Beachy 14:33 16 Feb 2005

Each time I complete an installation process by restarting my computer, I get a message: "Wait while Setup updates your configuration files...
Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2. Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before restarting".

This occurs whenever I try to update AVG Free, or my current problem, on trying to install a new printer.

Which version of Windows do you have?

Sorry, yes, it is Win ME. Have read thro the link you gave and will go away and follow it's instructions. But where it says I should type in the Restore From box, do I type what it says ie. "D:\Win9x", or should I put "D:\Win ME"?

Try what it says first.

Mmm.... I don't seem to have a Windows ME disc. ME came installed on my comp from Fujitsu Siemens. All I have is a Product Recovery disc (!)
