Is there a freebie to upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Home?

no freebee that I know of but you might find someone to sell you a copy of xp that they have finished with. Be careful that it is a genuine copy not a pirate or oem that can only be used on the original machine that it came with.

Author back again!
I have trawled the net and there is a FREE download of Windows XP HOME from Cnet downloads.
I have often used this website for reliable downloads. Do you, or any Forum member, think this is OK?
Also, I want it to replace Windows 98 , it just has a Celeron 1.7 ( I think) with 128 Ram.

128 MB will be a very slow struggle and I have never known of a free download for xp.

if it is available it may be for those having to reinstall but you would need your own cd key to get it running and be counted as a genuine copy

for your info I had dell p3 500mhz with 15 gb hdd & 128 mb Ram 10 years ago. 3 years down the line got 30gb hdd. it was w98 then installed w2k pro then xp pro then increased Ram to 320mb(second hand). still working ok but last month bought new pc with i7 860
processor 4gb Ram xp pro downgrade from w7 pro dell vostro with 500gb hdd. In short your 1.7 mhz celeron & 128 Ram should work but try increasing Ram. regards
