Windows 98 starts up magnified

Windows 98 starts up magnified & is impossible to reset to normal screen. Any suggestions to reset Win 98 to normal start-up would be appreciated.

i believe that you mean windows is starting in safe mode?

Is the above correct?

You will know if it is starting in safe mode as it says "safe mode" in the corners of the screen

As madboy33??, says, it could be starting in safe mode, indicting a possible problem, or it could be that your graphics card's drivers are corrupt and not loading properly. Update your card's drivers to see if that cures the problem, Stour23.

indicting.... should read... indicating.

Windows definately starts in magnified state..(no safe mode logo) can't even see the start box and is difficult to scroll with mouse to explore all.

If you could boot to DOS mode (hit f8 while booting and select command prompt). When you get the command prompt type

scanreg /restore (and hit enter)

hopefully you have a backup date on screen showing prior to the date when your system started up magnified,if so select that date and hit install

Once you restore to that earlier date, hopefully that will fix your problem

If Jim's restore solution doesn't work, checkout the graphics card's drivers as I suggested earlier, also checkout your refresh rate, make sure it is set properly. Sometimes the settings for the monitor get changed by kids playing with the buttons on the front of the monitor, make sure those are set correctly also.

do as JIM says but type scanreg/fix

this will fix the registry if there is a fault in it

It could be your graphics gone up the spout

Have you initiated one of the Accessibility functions?
