i have a toshiba satellite pro 400ce...can i conect an external modem to it i havent got a usb port
if using a nic then should not be a problem i think.click here (very out of date) so check the specs on the modem you are purchasing.
It should have a serial port, and you should be able to find an external modem with a serial connection easily.A NIC is a network port - different thing altogether.
You can also get PCMCIA modems; around £30 or so which should do the trick for you. Handier than messing around with the necessary cables for a serial modem.
You could also look for a PCCard modem (PCMCIA card). This fits in the card slot in the side.
Here is the sort of external modem, (serial port), you would need:click hereorclick here
Or, for the PCMCIA type:click here
I think there is a minimum processor speed for internet usage, I'm looking for the link.
[email protected]@m - it will all depend on the browser you use. I used Win3.1, Netscape 3 and Pegasus mail for a long time on an old 386 processor running at 25Mhz.Mind you, it did have 8Mb of RAM :-}
