Windows 7 Woes

  tobyjug2007 15:29 28 Jun 2010

I have recently updated my PC from XP to Windows 7, for a few weeks everything seemed to be working fine, now for some strange reason Internet explorer 8 keeps crashing, and rebooting itself. I downloaded google chrome browser, and this seems to cure the annoying occurence, but although quicker i dont like google chrome. Can anyone advise a free programme i can download and run, to check that my initial windows 7 installation has not been compromised in some way. I use Incredimail 2 as my email client, again worked fine untill just recently i was receiving hundreds of spam mail from where else but US ( Viagra mainly) i have run windows defender, plus NOD 32 antivirus and cant seem to clear these two issues up. I really dont wish to have to do a fresh install of Windows 7, but these two small cliches are doing my head in...if anyone can advise, i'd be very grateful.

Do a search on IE8 in this forum, and others, and you will see plenty of adverse comments about it (and probably just as many good ones), including some from me!

I won't have it on any of my machines.

If you don't like Chrome have you tried Firefox?

uninstalling IE8? click here

Then get ccleaner, and run the registry section which will clear out any remnants of IE8, then dl IE8 agin and re-install. Might be worth a try?

Try Tools.Internet Options.Advanced and reset.
This resets Internet Explorer to its original state.
You may have to enable your add-ons after doing it also enable Spywareblaster again.

Incredimail played up on me last week until I discovered there was another update for it.
That was two updates within a fortnight so make sure you have the latest version.

Also make sure you have Compatibility view ticked under tools.
