You can upgrade from previous versions to the current version, though its unlikely that you would actually be able to run XP on a machine that has 3.1 on it!

Why do you need to know this info??

MS recommend a min cpu of 266MHz and 128Mb ram, you will also need a HDD about 10Gb minimum to fit XP and all your other software as XP is rather larger than its previous incarnations. I have got it running on my daughters PC with a 200MMX cpu and 128MB ram but it is a little slow. I would doubt that any machine still running 3.1 would cope with XP.

Flipping heck!!!!!

It's like going from building lego duplo to building a rocket to go to mars and back. lol

I would say min spec for x\p is 500mhz. cpu 128 meg of ram and 2 gig hard drive.

To run it at an acceptable speed look at, 700mhz+cpu, 256 meg of ram and 10 gig hard drive.

btw its normally accepted that the real min spec is x3 what Microsoft say.

Can someone help me.

Can I run both Win 3.1 and XP Pro on the same computer and on the same new 85MB hard drive?

If yes, how do I go about it?

Yes, I have both orginally windows programs.

XP will take over 1GB (1000MB) to install. Do not think anything else, no enough space for it.

It is possible to run both Win3.1 and XP Pro on the same PC. Many windows can be on the same PC, e.g. 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP Pro, XP Home etc etc on the same machine if the machine has a big HD and meet XP requirement.

Perhaps Cedars369 meant 85GB rather than 85MB if it is new
