Windows 2k pro going in a loop

Hi all

Windows will not boot up, goes through initial sequence with blue bars going across but then reboots and keeps on doing this. Is there anyway i can check the hard disk etc without having to boot into windows. There is no option for command prompt only and safe mode is just the same.

I have tried chkdsk from the c prompt but has come back with cannot run in DOS.

Any help appreciated.

Only thing to do like this is boot from w2k disc and run a 'repair':

With the cdrom booting up you select 'install', then you will be prompted to enter the repair console in the next screen. Do not enter the repair console here but continue on by selecting 'install' again. Then you should be presented with the listed operating systems on your pc . This should give you the option to repair those installations. This way it will rewrite over the entire operating system but will leave your installed programs intact. The only thing using this method is that it wipes out every windows update.

Check the processor fan is spinning (and all other fans whilst you are there)
